WORK & OPPORTUNITIES AT RED HILL
Learn new skills, work outdoors and experience life at a working English vineyard and winery.
The seasons at Red Hill bring different jobs, skills and opportunities. Throughout the year we may offer seasonal work, harvest days, practical vineyard experience and longer-term roles across the vineyard, winery and visitor side of the estate.
Some opportunities are hands-on working roles while others are designed around learning and experience. Availability varies throughout the year, so get in touch if there is something you would like to be involved with.
PRUNING
January – March
Learn the principles of winter pruning and help prepare the vineyard for the growing season ahead.
Gain practical experience of vine structure, cutting techniques, training systems and how pruning decisions influence growth, fruiting and crop management.
WINERY & CELLAR
Autumn – Spring
Get closer to the winemaking process and see what happens after the grapes arrive at the winery.
Depending on the time of year, opportunities may include assisting with cellar work, wine movements, preparation, packaging and learning how English still and sparkling wines develop from harvest to finished bottle.
SUMMER VINEYARD WORK
May – September
Summer brings plenty to do amongst the vines, including shoot positioning, tucking-in, bud rubbing, leaf removal and general vineyard maintenance.
Seasonal work can be flexible and is a great way to spend time outdoors while learning how the vineyard develops through the growing season.
HARVEST
September – October
Harvest is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year at Red Hill.
Join the team picking and selecting grapes by hand before they head into the winery. Days can start early and involve plenty of activity, but there is a real sense of teamwork as the year’s crop comes in.
Where possible, we make sure there is coffee to get everyone started and something good to eat after a busy picking session.
Practical requirements
You will normally need your own transport as the vineyard is in a rural location. Suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear are essential for vineyard work. We will let you know about any additional requirements before you attend.
CURRENT & LONGER-TERM ROLES
From time to time we recruit for permanent, seasonal and apprenticeship roles across the winery, vineyard, hospitality and commercial sides of Red Hill.
